Don’t Become the Next Cancer Statistic

Cancer hits families hard.

Over the past 3 years I have lost 6 family members to cancer.

· One uncle died from colon cancer.

· One aunt died from colon cancer.

· One uncle died from brain cancer.

· One uncle died from liver cancer.

· My step-mother died of pancreatic cancer.

· My father died of kidney failure.

That’s a lot of funerals, and a lot of pain.

Does it have to be this way?

I can’t claim that any specific drug, dietary supplement, or miracle “super food” would have prevented any of these deaths, but I do know something about my family’s lifestyle and eating habits.

My family comes from Oklahoma, and every female in the family takes great pride in both her gardening and culinary skills.

I’ve had some memorable meals around the table of every aunt and uncle I have-and that may be the crux of the problem. I grew up on biscuits and sausage gravy for breakfast, fried catfish and hush puppies for dinner (lunch), and steak and potatoes for supper-all served in massive quantities.

And truth be known, I’ve never met a bowl of cream gravy I didn’t like.

Yes, we are blessed with abundance, and this very blessing may be what is killing some of us.

As I’ve grown older I have begun to re-evaluate the value of large meals, typically heavy on the red meat and gravies. I don’t know this for a fact, but all the health experts seem to agree-you need to eat less red meat, less fatty food, and more fruits and vegetables.

Okay, let’s take a closer look at this advice and consider what some of the current research is telling us about diet and how it impacts our health.

The truth is, our food does not retain the nutritional value it once held. So, we eat more of it, and derive less nutritional value from what we eat. Thus, we enter this cyclone of ever increasing food consumption and its resultant weight gain and health issues.

Food grown on depleted soil is forced to maturity with chemicals, and meat products are pumped with growth hormones to create massive muscle growth.

From my experience, we have to stop this insane ride up the cyclone’s cone of destruction and learn how to eat healthy.
